Irene Comes and Goes
As it turned out, it was its size more than its power that made Hurricane Irene such a force to be reckoned with here on Long Island.
The massive hurricane, at some point 700 miles wide, struck last night and pounded the area for hours before heading north as a tropical storm. But it left in its wake toppled trees, downed power lines, flooding, and property damage.
